  • relocate to colorado?

Posted by admin on December 10th, 2008 and filed under ny paralegal school | 4 Comments »

we are looking in to moving to Colorado in the next 3-5 years. We live in NY, but here for temporary time. We want to have a home at a affordable price to raise a family. We live in NC, raleigh but the job market was really bad and the there wasn't much diversity over there. I have been looking at my career options in NC and there wasn;t much going on right now. However, I noticed in Colorado we saw a whole bunch of great opportunites and suggestion? And how is the shopping. restaurants etc?

    Thanks in advance!

I'm looking to going to law school right now I'm a paralegal.

I live in teh Cedaredge area, andf for a small town it's not bad.

Ft. Collins, Colorado Springs, Durango, Talluride (expensive but beautiful), Montrose, Boulder, and Sterling are all pretty cool places to live, my two favorites being Ft Collins and Colo Spgs.

You already have the links to those two in another answer so I wont give them to you twice, but google some of the others, Colorado is absolutely gorgeous.
I live right at the base of the Grand Mesa- and WOW All times of the year it's absolutely beautiful. we have Hiking, fishing, skiing, snowboarding, river rafting, canoeing, biking, everything you can possibly think of right in out backyard. an hours drive from my house there;s an open amethyst mine where you can find HUGE chunks of amethyst.
The wildlife is awesome too. we mainly have deer in my area, but I've seen elk, moose, bears, bobcats, antelope (i think that's what they're called), everything you can think of.

It's wonderful out here, e-mail me if you have any more questions, I know this state like the back of my hand!

    Have fun!

    Relocate to Colorado?

Colorado is beautiful!! I currently live in New Jersey (not far from NYC) but have been looking into relocating to Colorado as well…and have gone out there to see what it is like. I also went to college in upstate NY…but Colorado is just so amazing!

Denver is a great city with a good amount of job opportunities. Housing costs are cheaper but the pay tends to not be as much either….but with a job in law you would definitely be fine.

Getting around is so much easier, the shopping is great (the malls are all new and the stores are great–I actually prefered the shopping out in Denver compared to NYC!. The restaurants and different neighborhoods are all really nice. I always hear people complaining about traffic in Colorado…but if you are used to the east coast it's not bad at all. The views of the Rockies are incredible! I felt really safe in the city and it was really clean. Plus, there are so many great places to visit in Co.

As for diversity, most of the suburbs are very white. Denver has a large hispanic population, but I wouldn't say I felt it was really diverse (even though statistically it is). After living in the ny metro area, denver felt more calm and suburban to me.

    Good luck!

Need help deciding between 2 jobs in NY?

Posted by admin on December 6th, 2008 and filed under ny paralegal school | 5 Comments »

I currently am working for as a Temp at MetLife in their Legal dept as a Paralegal. I have an MBA degree and want to go to law school next year. Their is another job opportunity that is knocking my door in a bank call BBVA to be a Loan Administrator. What should I do?

Which is best for me for law school. Which one would be a better company? I also am looking for flexibility because I want to go to law school in the evenings.

Which one is a better choice???

An answered received would throw some major light in my direction.

    Thank you !

I think your job as a paralegal is better for you in the long run if you're going to go to law school. It would give you a little more experience. It would also look good on your resume. A loan administrator at a bank wouldn't do much for the legal profession. Good luck with whatever you choose.

I want to reapply to Law School but Low LSAT and Low UGPA?

Posted by admin on December 4th, 2008 and filed under ny paralegal school | 2 Comments »

I applied to 3 law schools back in 2004 and got rejected to all. My LSAT is 143 with a 2.68 UGPA. I have been out of undergrad since 1999 but have recently gone back to school and earned a Masters degree. I really want to apply again but I am so afraid that I will be rejected. I have been working as a paralegal for 10 years now and have gained great experience. Becoming a lawyer has always been my dream and I can't seem to give up on it but I am so afraid if I apply, I will get rejected again. What chances do I have in getting into ANY school? What can I do better? I am limited to the NY, NJ, CT area.

The guy above me has no idea what he's talking about (evidenced by suggesting a 550 on the LSAT). The real situation is that with your GPA you need at least a 160 to be competitive at any law school worth going to, and your only shot is improving your LSAT score.

Did you prep for the LSAT? If not, it's certainly possible to make a 17 point score improvement, enroll in a prep course or tutoring if you can. If not, buy the LR and LG bibles from PowerScore, and buy and take prep test after prep test, reading explanations from everything you got wrong. Myself, I took 25 full-length prep tests under realistic conditions, and the range between my base score and actual score was 17 points (161-178).

How do I get a business attorney job after graduation?

Posted by admin on December 2nd, 2008 and filed under ny paralegal school | 1 Comment »

I graduated from Rutgers Law this year. I was a night student, worked as a litigation paralegal for two years at a 225 attorney firm, have good grades, was on the main journal, published an article in the journal. I was a finance major in undergrad and concentrated on business law classes at law school. All I want is a position as a business attorney at a large or mid sized firm.

Unfortunatley, every where I apply they tell me that they are impressed with my credentials but they primarily recruit their summer associates for entry level jobs. I already sent out 100 cover letters and resumes! Can anyone give me any tips or share their experiences? Does any one know of any firms that are looking to hire?

I took NJ and PA bar exam a few weeks ago. I would be willing to take a job anywhere and would take the bar in that locality. I've been applying to firms in Philly, NJ and NY.

Do you enjoy being a paralegal?

Posted by admin on November 30th, 2008 and filed under ny paralegal school | 3 Comments »

In the middle of a career change. Presently unemployed and looking to go back to school for legal secretary. I was wondering if a paralegal career would be more rewarding in regards to pay, work enviornment, stress, and so on…. thanks for all of your input. Live in upstate NY but willing to travel to city 1 hour away if pay is better….

I love my job! I am completely content and do not forsee ever wanting to change careers. Being a paralegal is very rewarding. I work with legal secretaries, in fact, I started out as a legal secretary. Let me tell you, paralegal work is much less tedious and more substantive. Legal secretaries have to maintain attorney calendars, process mail, input time, file pleadings, make trial notebooks, and basic secretarial work. Whereas paralegals don't have to do all that mess. We do legal research, discovery, trial prep, drafting of pleadings and court docs, and contact with the client.

Here is the site to find American Bar Association accredited schools in your area: http://www.abanet.org/legalservices/paralegals/directory/home.html

I highly, highly, HIGHLY, recommend only going to an ABA accredited school. To be a paralegal you need either experience or experience and a degree. Having a degree really helps. While you are going to school maybe you could find a job at a law office as a legal secretary to get some experience and bulk up your knowledge of the way things work in a law office.

    Best of luck to you!
