I currently live in the suburbs of Atlanta, well, Gwinnett County. I hate it here, maybe it’s just me but I’m a northerner originally from DC/NY so I’m use to diversity and living in all black neighborhoods. Here’s my questions, I want my children to go to better schools and live in a more diverse neighborhood as well as wanting to be more successful which I thought Atlanta would give me and it hasn’t. Anyone recommend places in Cali for a young family to live? I’m in the law field (paralegal) wanting to get into the fashion industry and my husband is a caterer and wants to start his own business. I know most ppl feel ATL is the best place for blacks but I’ve been here 3 years and just really not sure. Anyone from ATL can answer too, maybe I need to move OUT of Gwinnett County and not across the country? if so, where in Georgia??? Thanks much!!
The public school in California is among worst in the nation, you jump to school with all latino( hispanish), a few cities with better school district are very expensive, a bungalow in Palo Alto, Cupertino costs $1 million, and school are full of hard studing asian students.
Maybe NC is good for you.

i am about to graduate highschool june 2009 ..i have visited suny at old westbury college in LI i loved it , and if i go there i plan to dorm there as well. Since i live in NY i have a choice to go to CUNY which is 4,000 a year and they have really good ones. I would plan on living at home and attendind a CUNY most likely John Jay and doing paralegal studies. I wanna do paralegal studies because i plan on law school after undergrad and paralegal studies will help me alot for law school. I plan on hofstra law or fordham law but as for right now im so confused on whether i should go away for college or whether i should stay at home and pay alot cheaper tuition and be around my family. Tell me what you guys think about everything from whether i should go away or not?( and i know people say its all up to the person but i need some influencing? whether doing paralegal while in law school is a good idea? what kind of money do they make? i need help people jus give me and honest opinion..by the way my GPA is not great its like a 78-79 ish
by the way i will NOT get finacial aid for the simple fact that my stepfather owns 2 buisnesses 2 cars and the house is split between him and my mom. My mom know files taxes with him and i will not get much from finacial aid probably like 2,000 or so. It appears i am rich because my mom has me as a dependent and my stepfather put everything on her name..(cars,buisness and house) but i definetly am not..
*my mom now..not know
typo sorry
If money is an issue, then stay home. You’ll save a lot– no living or food expense. However, there’s financial aid, etc. If you don’t think you’re ready to live away from home and basically be on your own two feet, stay home. Not everyone has to live the typical college life.

I was set on becoming a lawyer, and still want to, but I'm also considering other paths…these are some undergraduate majors that I'm thinking about, well, considering. Would you please suggest some schools for these? I would prefer schools in the northeast (or sth along the lines of: Boston, NY, D.C., etc.).
Majors (I might even do a major and minor…got suggestions?)
-Secondary Education (English/Lit)
-Eng. language and Lit.
-Social Sci.
-Philosophy
-Pol. Sci.
-International Relations
-Paralegal
Thanks!
poli sci is a great pre- law school major (if u like politics a lot). Georgetown (where i'm looking) offers a major called international political economy

I'm currently a legal studies major pursuing a BS. I'm planning to go to law school. I would like to get into the field as a paralegal right now. I am at the end of my sophomore year. I want to know how to get into it, even as an intern or something, without experience/ (a full) education. I live in NJ but attend school in Staten Island, NY. If anyone has any info it'd be appreciated! thanks!
1.) See if your college offers any career placement options.
2.) Send your resume around to different law firms about town.
3.) Check careerbuilder.com
4.) Apply for jobs as a Legal Assistant/Secretary and you can get your foot in the door.
I started off as a Legal Secretary 8 years ago, then went on to be a paralegal and now am a 3LS about to take the Bar exam. It's a challenging field, but so much fun and definitely worth it.
Good luck!!

I would like to gain some experience before I apply to law school. I want to apply to BIGLAW firms as a legal assistant. I live in a big city (NY/NJ legal market) Can I apply anytime and if so, when can I expect to start working?
Specifically, if I graduate in May, when do I apply? And if I graduate in February, (if i finished these classes) when do I apply?
Thanks!!
You should start applying at least 3-6 months before you graduate school. Beef up your resume with all the jobs you’ve had that show you have clerical / secretarial experience.
Good luck!

I have two years left at a State College. I am just curious what people think of my combination of degrees. I live in the tri-state area (NJ PA NY) if that helps. Also I know this is different from school to school but does a minor in Paralegal require the student to be certified? if so, what is the test or certification requirements? Thank you for your answers.
I think your combination of degrees will be extremely useful to an organization. Your pitch should focus on the fact that you are able to not only support the legal requirements of an organization but you are able to present the legal services to the market place in order to increase revenue. Companies love when an employee uses practical knowledge of a specific industry (legal in your case) in order to improve sales and marketing. More often than not there is one person in the organization who is knowledgable about being a paralegal and another person handling the marketing. You will have an advantage because you are knowledgable about both.
Also, think grad school and maybe specializing in Law Marketing; be creative and create your own career! Legal firms would pay you to study trends in legal services and predict marketing trends.
