I wasn't sure which direction to head in after graduating High School June 2008. So I attended Community College and now decided to head in the law direction. I want to become a Paralegal then further my education (to maybe a Lawyer) after that. I'm finding it hard to locate a school that offers a Bachelor's degree in paralegal studies. Plus my school isn't' really popular for that field so my major is 'Office Administration with a concentration in Legal' So if any of you know of a school/ site that'll be helpful i'd appreciate it.

You want to attend a school that is ABA accredited. If you don't, that's like a doctor attending a medical school that isn't licensed…not a good idea!!! Really, you do not need a BA to become a paralegal. A 2 year AA (or AS) degree is sufficient. Make sure you get one from a school where the credits will be transferable to a university so that when you want to complete your BA you can do so. But if you really want a BA in paralegal studies then by all means go for it!

Currently interested in starting a career change and I have been in Business administration for 25 years and would like to change into a field that I have been interested in for some time, and HS dip is all I have, besides some technical class for computer courses.

The opportunities for a paralegal really depends on the specialty. The most in demand paralegals are those in the litigation field; followed by corporate paralegals who are responsible for maintaining corporate records, articles of incorporation, etc. While the "least" markeable [but the "highest" paid] paralegals are in the field of intellectual property [i.e., patents, trademarks] and immigration law. In conclusion, choose your paralegal courses accordingly, with emphasis on litigation preparation [discovery], docketing/calendaring of incoming pleadings [calendaring] and trial preparation [creating Exhibit tabs, Bajii jury instructions, etc.]. The "pro" side of a litigation paralegal is often "unlimited" overtime which can amount to a high salary range of $65,000 to $75,000 per year, while the "downside," being constantly pressured to meet a monthly client billable quota. And failing to meet that quota, often results in the paralegal's overnight dismissal. It's not a pretty picture. I just want to lay out what really happens in the real world of litigators and their relationship with subordinate paralegals.

I am currently attending my last semester at community college for my Law Clerk program. Once I finish, I am planning on going to university while working at whatever job I can get with my law clerk diploma. My goal is to aim for Law school. I was thinking about going for the paralegal program which is a 4 year course. Could the program help me if I ever get into law school? Is there another program I can take in university which will get me better prepared for law school?

Yes, a paralegal degree will definitely help you on your way to law school. Working as a legal clerk and as a paralegal will also give you personal experience to draw on and make your resume more competitive. You'll still need to go through law school to become an attorney, but you'll be better prepared for it than students who come from other fields.
